Desire Form - I want to...
In English, to say I want something, we add 'I want (to)' to the beginning of it. But how do we do that in Japanese? First, we'll bring up our simplified Verb Chant Chart:
For this example, we'll use たべる to eat. Here are the steps:
1 // Find the VERB STEM column (the fourth one across) of your desired verb.
2 // Add たい tai to the end of it. Done!
So for たべる, we'd find the fourth column. This is たべ. Now add たい onto it, to make たべたい.
To eat is now I want to eat. Awesome!

To say something in negative, follow these steps:
1 // Find the VERB STEM column (the fourth one across) of your desired verb.
2 // Add たくない takunai to the end of it. Done!
